Director of Resources Wetlands International

About the Role

Location: Global Office Ede-Wageningen, The Netherlands | Full-time (36 hrs)

As Director of Resources, you will play a central role in shaping the operational backbone of the organization. You will lead the management of financial and human resources, systems, facilities, and internal processes at our Global Office. As part of the Global Management Team, you will work closely with the CEO and fellow directors to guide and support the Wetlands International network of national offices across Africa, Asia, Europe, and Latin America.

This role goes beyond operational oversight – you will act as a strategic business partner to the Heads of Offices of the independent network organisations worldwide, ensuring consistent standards and practices in budgeting, reporting, HR, and administration, while fostering a high-performance, values-driven work environment.

Your Key Responsibilities

• As a member of the Global Management Team provide day-to-day leadership alongside the CEO and other directors.
• Lead and manage a team consisting of finance, HR, office operations, and legal affairs staff in the Global Office.
• Oversee financial systems and standards across the global network, ensuring high-quality budgeting, reporting, and compliance.
• Drive improvements in business models, operational efficiency, and effectiveness throughout the organization.
• Ensure a robust planning cycle, maintain high standards for charity certifications (e.g., ANBI, CBF) and monitor compliance with Dutch laws and regulations and codes of conduct applicable.
• Champion a collaborative, inclusive, and healthy work culture and professional development for staff.
• Lead the implementation of network-wide policies including those on finance, HR, safety & security, ethics, and gender equality.
• Represent Wetlands International to external partners including donors, service providers, and auditors.
• Travel to international offices as needed to support national teams and operations.

Who You Are

• A senior leader with a Master’s degree in finance, business, economics, or related fields.
• At least 10 years of experience in senior finance and operations roles, preferably within international NGOs or purpose-driven organizations.
• Skilled in leading teams, managing people, and working across diverse cultural contexts.
• Experienced in enterprise systems, financial reporting, audits, and compliance.
• Confident in shaping business models and working with governance bodies and risk/finance committees.
• Experience with working in a network organisation is considered an asset.
• Fluent in English and Dutch; additional languages are a plus.
• Passionate about environmental and social impact, with a strong alignment to Wetlands International’s mission.

The salary range for 36 hours/5 days a week is from € 68.800 to € 111.000 (inclusive 8% holiday allowances) depending on profile and experience. You will receive a business laptop, a pension contribution and a reimbursement of travel and mobile phone expenses.
